Getting Married at St. Stan's

Every wedding is not just a celebration for the couple being married but it is a celebration of the entire Church. All weddings are public events and should reflect the best form of worship of the Church.  All who are present should be drawn into active participation, which leads them to reflect on their relationship with God and one another, and pray for the wedding couple.

So that people can be a part of your wedding, your planning should include prayer and song, which lead everyone to participation and worship.  All plans should be completed with the priest and/or the pastoral minister who is preparing you for the celebration of your wedding.

Our parish family is very happy for you as you prepare for your upcoming wedding celebration. We want it to be meaningful, joyful, and memorable as well as beautiful. Therefore, the parish has established these guidelines for those wishing to be married at St. Stan's:
  • One of the parties requesting marriage must be a registered member of the parish or a son or daughter of a registered parishioner. The Catholic parties should be personally registered at a church and actively practicing the Catholic Faith. Actively practicing means living a Christian lifestyle and regularly attending Sunday Mass.
  • The priest must be contacted a least 6 months prior to the marriage date in accord with diocesan policies, to allow sufficient time for instruction.
  • Each couple must meet with the priest to fill out the required forms for marriage.
  • They will be required to take a pre-marriage inventory and then to meet with the priest or with the pastoral minister to ensure the parties are emotionally prepared for marriage.
  • The couple is required to attend one large group Pre-Cana session on the sacrament of Marriage, which will be offered at the parish. The priest will make dates of the class available on a semi-annual basis as set.
  • Other forms of marriage preparation may be substituted for our marriage preparation program, such as Engaged Encounter or Pre-Cana classes. These options must be discussed with the priest preparing you.
  • Weddings as a rule DO NOT take place during the season of Lent due to the solemn penitential nature of the season.
