Parish Nurses @ St. Stan's

Parish Nursing began at St. Stanislaus Kostka in 1998. Established on a foundation of faith and tradition, its mission is to model the healing ministry of Jesus Christ through active service and facilitate healing of the total person, in body, mind and spirit. As imitators of Christ and in harmony with Catholic social teaching, Parish Nurses at St. Stanislaus Kostka uphold and defend the sanctity of human life in all stages and conditions of development and demonstrate a preferential concern for the poor and afflicted.

Parish Nursing is the fastest growing specialty area in nursing and its practice is governed by the proactive standards established in 1998 by the American Nurses Association (ANA) in collaboration with the Health Ministries Association. Parish Nurses:
  • Are Registered Nurses licensed in the state in which they work.
  • Have standardized preparation through the Parish Nurse Basic Preparation Course.
  • Maintain professional proficiency by adhering to professional nursing standards and through accredited course work, conferences and programs.
  • Actively seek to deepen their spiritual life and relationship with Jesus Christ.
The unique roles of the Parish Nurse include:
  • Health educator promoting wellness.
  • Health counselor advocating personal responsibility.
  • Teacher and coordinator of volunteers.
  • Liaison with community resources.
  • Integrator of faith and health.
Parish Nursing, while not a new idea for the Church, is new for our time. It is a concrete response to the call to evangelize the life of the Gospel and lead others to fullness of life in Jesus Christ.
